Jumping from a YouTube smash with “What Languages Sound Like to Foreigners” to a bona fide banger of a debut single!
Saara’s debut single “Ur Cool” is truly one of the catchiest songs you’ll hear all summer. You know the pop singer already if you’re one of the 14.5 million and counting who watched her cleverly hilarious viral YouTube clip, “What Languages Sound Like to Foreigners,” since it dropped last year. Here’s the thing though, Saara brings that same highly aware humorousness to her first release for Rodney Jerkin’s Evolve label through Capitol Music Group, but she also can carry a tune with the best of them. Beyond her smart approach and cool cleverness, she’s a vocal powerhouse.
That prowess really propels you’re cool. Just as she was able to nail different inflections, she hits separate pitches and tones, peppering the song with raw, real talent. Add in a sample from Harmony Smith’s ultra-viewed Vine, and you’ve got the recipe for a new kind of smash. It bridges two schools of thoughts and approaches, speaking to YouTube nation as well as the generation prior who just appreciated a good old fashioned pop song.
Saara’s got an equally interesting backstory too. She was born in Finland, but bounced between Texas and the UK, and now she spends a considerable amount of time in Los Angeles. At just 20, she’s poised for some big things in 2015 as “Ur Cool” takes off and she readies her first EP.
What really stands about Saara though is she’s not a “YouTuber.” Rather, she’s just a killer singer and artist. So many of YouTube’s biggest stars have tried to cross over to music, and it hasn’t worked. She’s the first to use the platform to develop a following and then back it up with incredible talent and potent out-of-the-box first single that still nods to where she came from.
In that sense, Saara is genuinely the future of pop.
