Peter Berg, fresh off the astronomical success of the summer superhero comedy Hancock, has locked up another job. The director has signed on to direct Universal Studios' upcoming reimagining of Hercules, the demigod who is son of the god Zeus and the mortal woman Alcmena in Greek mythology.
Berg will produce, develop, and direct Hercules: The Thracian Wars for Spyglass Entertainment, his own Film 44 and Radical Pictures producing. The script is based on a comic book series by Steve Moore that ran for five issues and was released in May via Radical Publishing. Berg and the producers plan to stay true to the comic book plotline and story details, focusing on Hercules' humanity as opposed to his godliness.
Berg's career is blazing right now, as he has also signed to direct Dune for a 2010 release by Paramount as well as Edwin A. Salt.
