How ironically tragic is it that one of Michael Jackson's best jams comes a year-and-a-half after his untimely death? Jackson's "Breaking News," which opens with news sound bytes about the singer before it launches into a beat and some self-referential choruses, is streaming for the entire week here. The posthumous song will appear on Michael, the new Jackson album due out December 14, which features music he was working on before he died.
While some fans think it isn't Jackson actually singing, since the vocals sound of a lower register, I think it is Jackson. The song demonstrates that Jackson was quite self-aware and still was the King of Pop. The song is polished and slick, but still has a pulsating, thunderous heart. It's quintessential, vintage Jackson and even though it is being released after his death, there is no "cash in" vibe to the song. It reminds us of the tragic loss, and that Michael still had a whole hell of a lot of pop left in him when he departed this earthly plane.
Michael is being released in conjunction with the late singer's estate.
Did you listen to "Breaking News?" And? What did you think?
