You need some new music in your life. It's summer. Time to open your ears and expand your mind with rock band The Trophy Fire, who hail from San Francisco, California, courtesy of this ARTISTdirect New Artist Alert. We want you to check out their song "Kids."
But before you do, allow us to provide some context: The band combines '90s alt and indie rock with a love of '80s synth pop. Their new album Directions for Daylight is out now. Ben Flanagan, who sings and plays guitar and keys in the band and who was also a member of The Actual and a touring member of Dredg, spoke to ARTISTdirect about "Kids," saying, "'Kids' is really a song about fondly looking back. It's a song about 'firsts': First kiss, first time picking up a guitar, first time getting high, etc." Oh, we all remember those firsts! Anyone over the age of 18 does! If you are under the age of 18, all those firsts are coming. We promise!
Flanagan continued, "There is something so beautiful and exhilarating about being young and experiencing things for the first time. We still have novel experiences of course as adults, but they seem to not be quite as visceral as they were when just trying to figure everything out as teenagers. It's about the beauty of youth."
With that in mind, take a listen to "Kids" by The Trophy Fire.
