This new bedroom jam from Ms. Jackson drips with sexy.
Janet Jackson is back with her first song in for... ever! It's called "No Sleeep" and it's a slow-burning, sexy, bedroom ballad.
"No Sleeep" is the kind of R&B jam that Janet—Miss Jackson if you're nasty—built her stellar pop x R&B rep on in the late '80s and early '90s, before she slowed down and then stopped, grinding to a halt and getting married and dropping off the musical radar.
But that's all water under the bridge. She's back to making music. And let's assess what we have.
"No Sleeep" is a butter smooth, bearskin-rug-by-the-fire, feed-each-other-strawberries-and-champagne track that is so sexy in its suggestion and its power of subtlety that it almost earns an X-rating.
Jackson's voice is breathy and sex kitten-ish, as she is accompanied by lite beats and some soft handclaps.
Call it a comeback, even if it's not anywhere near on par with "That's the Way Love Goes" or "Come Back to Me," which are her quintessential ballads from Janet Jackson's catalog.
This sexalicious romp—Seriously, why are Janet and the person she is singing about getting "no sleeep? (Yep, there's an extra 'e' in sleeep.) Since they are too busy enjoying sexy time, because duh!—serves to remind us how much we missed Michael Jackson's baby sister!
"No Sleeep" drips with sexy and it brings Janet back to us. Is it her best work ever? Well, no, it's not! Control and Rhythm Nation 1814 are definitive albums with definitive songs. You will need to listen to this over and over to digest it, and to let Janet back into your life, heart and ears. And you may eventually find yourself getting your freak on to "No Sleeep."
