Big band leader Glenn Miller of "In the Mood" fame is the subject of one of history's and music's biggest mysteries. Fascinating new details behind one of the 20th century's most intriguing mysteries, possibly the biggest cold case of WWII, are featured in an episode of the PBS series History Detective Special Investigations, airing net week.
Conspiracy theories still abound in the case of hugely popular Miller — more famous than The Beatles in his day -- where the world first heard the news he had gone missing on Christmas Eve of 1944 is one of the biggest cold cases of WWII.
Miller was reported missing after boarding a WWII Norseman plane flying over the English Channel that was never seen again.
So what really happened to Glenn Miller and that plane?
Was the big band leader just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Was it "friendly fire?" Was his disappearance tied to a secret plan to overthrow Hitler? We don't know, but we can speculate and postulate, and watch others do the same with this ep!
History Detectives Special Investigations – The Disappearance of Glenn Miller premieres Tuesday, July 8 at 9PM on PBS.
