The NFL was seeking $1.5 million in damages from rapper M.I.A., who flashed the finger to the camera for all the world to see when performing as part of Madonna's 2012 Super Bowl halftime performance.
Now, the league wants her to pay an additional $15.1 million, for a total of $16.6 million in damages, since, according to The Hollywood Reporter, she breached a contract to uphold the wholesome values of the NFL. Additionally, the league claims that she received tons of free time and publicity due to her actions, something that an advertiser would have had to pay for. So the money it wants pays that debt, in their eyes.
M.I.A. is arguing that the NFL is not wholesome, has had other salacious halftime performances via Prince and others and is dealing with issues of bullying and more.
