The upcoming contemporary western, directed by David Mackenzie (Starred Up, Young Adam), was premiered at Cannes and will hit theaters on August 12th, the same day that the soundtrack will be released on Milan Records.
The film charts the exploits of a divorced father who plots a string of bank heists with his ex-con brother (Ben Foster) in order to keep the family's house from entering foreclosure. Jeff Bridges plays a Texas Ranger, two weeks from retirement, trying to prevent the crimes of the brothers.
Excerpts of two tracks, "Comancheria" and "Mama's Room." have been made available via the Milan Records Soundcloud. Aside from the musical score a number of contributions from an array of outlaw country artists add to the soundtrack; Waylon Jennings, Chris Stapleton and Townes Van Zandt are amongst those featured.
Hell Or High Water is not the first film that Cave and Ellis have collaborated on. The duo have also scored The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Road, and a recent French language film, Loin Des Hommes.
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds will release Skeleton Tree, their 16th studio album on September 9th, which will be debuted in a feature called One More Time With Feeling on September 8th. The film, directed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James…) includes footage of the Bad Seeds performing the album in full, accompanied by interviews and ‘candid musings' from Cave.
