Nicki Minaj "Starships" Song Review — 5 out of 5 stars

Welcome to Nicki Minaj's universe…Absolutely nothing is off limits.
She took over hip hop with 2010's magnificent Pink Friday, and now, with her new single "Starships", she's got her sights on the crown as the real 21st century queen of pop. After a sunny, snazzy guitar snap, one of Minaj's entrancing voices pulls listeners into a groovy verse. She drops a rhyme about "Bud Light" before proclaiming, "I'm gonna blow all my money and don't give two shits."
Then, the first of not one but two heavenly hooks takes hold. Minaj seamlessly shifts into a brilliant bridge that gives way to a massive refrain, "Starships were meant to fly". Flipping the script again, the production breaks down into a dubstep warble and the chopped 'n' screwed phrase "We higher than a motherfucker" before sliding back to the reggae-style twang.
One of many wonderful things about Minaj is that she's fearless. Right before seguing into "Twinkle twinkle little star", she slyly declares, "Fuck who you want and fuck you like, dance all night there's no end in sight".
Not only will you be dancing all night to "Starships", you'll be singing it too. This is truly majestic pop and one of the best songs of 2012. With her forthcoming Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded out April 3, Minaj is rightfully going to be the biggest in the world. Hop in the "Starships" and follow her to the top.
