Seminal independent music festival Noise Pop is not just about the incredible bands that have graced their lineups for the last 20 years. Noise Pop celebrates DIY culture at its best, featuring everything from films, lectures, workshops, music-themed dinners and more. No place do these worlds converge better than at Noise Pop's second annual Pop-Up Shop. Presented by Stoli, the Noise Pop Pop-Up Shop is a full month of local bands, DJ's, music-themed meals, films, dancing, drinking, comedians, and a Berlin-style ping pong party. The festivities kick off on Feb. 2 with free performances by Soft White Sixties and Tim Cohen's Magic Trick. Check out the details on specific Pop-Up Shop events.
The Noise Pop Pop-Up Shop will be the site of Noise Pop's COVERS series, which pairs an acclaimed chef with music to create a singular culinary experience. In continuing the tradition of supporting all aspects of Bay Area culture, Pop-Up Shop meals in February will be cooked by talented local chef Blair Warsham. Warsham's five-course meal will pay tribute to some of the Bay Area's best chefs, including Michael Mina and Aziza's Mourad Lahlou by "covering" their notable dishes. The series' first dinner on Feb. 14, hosted by graffEats and Noise Pop, will pair short films to each dish made, while the Feb. 15 dinner will pair a tasting menu to selected playlists of local bands.
Noise Pop 20 is shaping up to be a pinnacle event for the Bay Area in 2012. The festival will play host to previously announced Noise Pop alumni, The Flaming Lips and Bob Mould, who will each performing a classic album from their catalogue. The lineup also features the likes of Sleigh Bells, Mac McCaughan from Superchunk/Portastatic, Atlas Sound, Matthew Dear, The Soft Pack, Class Actress, Thao, Release the Sunbird, Papercuts, The Dodos, John Vanderslice, Two Gallants, Hollerado, and many many more. These folks will join previously announced bands like Built to Spill, Archers of Loaf, Cursive, Die Antwood, Grimes, and Christie Front Drive in celebrating Noise Pop's twenty year legacy.
