Oliver Stone Gets Political...Again

Oliver Stone will follow up his controversial George W. Bush biopic W. with another politically-themed project. Stone is planning to direct a documentary about controversial Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.
Stone has been hard at work on the Chavez documentary for nearly six months now and is hoping to have it ready for release sometime in 2009. The film will look at Chavez and his role in the South American revolution as more left-leaning politicians have been taking office in recent years. Stone spent time with Chavez in February amidst a hostage crisis, during which time Chavez brokered for release of the captives with the FARC, a militant Columbian group. Instead of focusing on the rescue scenario and what unfolded during those critical hours, the documentary will look at the opposition that Chavez has battled both domestically and abroad, especially from the U.S.' own outgoing President Bush.
