In an interview with ABC's Nightline, One Direction admitted that they know they are a rarity in the music business, and more specifically, the boy band business.
"We're very rare," band member Liam Payne said. "But we're so lucky that, you know, our personalities actually blend together so well and we're all quite easy-going."
"When we sit down, we can't believe that we get on so well ourselves," newly-engaged Zayn Malik added. "When we talk to each other, we're like, 'How crazy is it that we didn't know each other?'"
"We didn't really want to follow the stereotype of the boy band," the super fun Louis Tomlinson said. "But we are, obviously, still a boy band. And we're just doing it in our own way."
Payne added, "We literally are the best of friends. We hang out with each other 24/7, and we have a good time."
All those things add up to a recipe for MASSIVE success, which they have achieved.
The band also admitted that it wrote the majority of the 14 songs on its upcoming third album, possibly out this year. They penned 10 tracks! So they are not an assembly line, manufactured act performing someone else's songs.
Their 3D film This Is Us hits the multiplex on Friday, August 30.
