One More Round of Watchmen Drama

After a messy pre-release winter battle with Fox over which studio owned the rights to Watchmen, Warner Bros. and producer Larry Gordon will enter into a confidential mediation hearing on May 13 to decide who is at fault for the legal issues that resulted.
Fox claimed that it still owned the film's rights as it initially developed the film with Gordon. Gordon eventually took the project to Warner Bros. Once word of mouth buzz escalated, Fox claimed to own a distribution right. The case was settled in January, with Fox awarded a cash payment and a portion of the film's proceeds. The film has grossed $138 million worldwide, a disappointing figure given Warner's aggressive marketing and promotional campaign.
Warner is reportedly seeking reimbursement from Gordon, claiming he didn't properly secure rights before bringing the film to the studio's system. Gordon is expected to claim that the studio was aware of Fox's rights and moved forward regardless.
