Noted British-born producer John Daly, who produced 13 Academy Award winning films, including Platoon and The Last Emperor, passed away on Friday morning at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was 71-years-old and had endured a battle with cancer.
Over the course of his storied career, Daly helped producer films that nabbed 21 Academy Award nominations. Many of his films also received Golden Globe nominations and awards, too. He and a business partner formed the Hemdale company, which managed rock bands like Black Sabbath, and went on to become a leading producer of independent films. Under Daly's leadership, Hemdale produced more than 100 films which went on to gross more than $1.5 billion dollars. Daly is survived by three sons and a daughter.
