The 2007 Icelandic murder mystery Jar City is being remade by Overture Films, which recently bought the rights to the film.
Michael Ross is attached to write the screenplay, while the original's director, Baltasar Kormákur, will serve in an executive producer capacity on the remake.
The film's setting will be changed to a small town in Louisiana. The original featured a detective investigating a murder who subsequently discovers a web of secrets and corruption that plagues a small town in Iceland, which also leads to his examination of his own personal relationships. Overture and Ross hope their U.S. version will retain the emotional charge of the original and marry it with thriller elements.
