Having already captivated music fans with her live and recorded work with Owl City, Minnesota-based singer and songwriter Breanne Düren is stepping out on her own with her debut EP, entitled Sparks, which will be released on May 3rd through dürendüren Records. Those who pre-order Sparks here will receive an instant digital download of the lead track "Gold Mine." She's a stunning artist, so remember, you read about her here first.

Sparks is a five-song introduction to this charming young artist that showcases her sweet, soulful voice, unique lyrical point of view, and talent for writing lithe, playful melodies. "Gold Mine" boasts a modern take on the pop-soul vibe of classic '60s girl groups, while "No One Else" bounces along on a stripped-down synth-pop groove.

Lyrically, the songs reflect the curiosity of a young woman trying to make her way in the world. "I'm at a point in my life where I'm figuring out a lot about myself, and I have a lot of questions," Düren said. That's what 'Gold Mine' is about. I believe we have all been given a unique purpose and the pursuit of that is what gets us out of bed in the morning. We should always be searching and asking questions — about ourselves, our dreams, our experiences."

Düren began sketching out ideas for the songs on Sparks while on tour with Owl City's Adam Young. She also sings on Owl City's 2009 platinum album Ocean Eyes and forthcoming release All Things Bright and Beautiful. "I'd hum melodies while walking around the airport, write lyrics in my bunk on the bus, or dance to the rhythms playing in my head while getting ready for a show," she said. "I find the environment on tour to be very inspiring, as every day revolves around music and performance. Also, constantly experiencing new places and meeting new people really fuels the creative fire."

"I want my music to inspire people," Düren said. "I always want it to be honest and articulate so the listener is able to understand and relate. Music is about connection and bringing people together, and that's what I want to do. I also believe that the more I stay true to myself in my music, the more inspiring the music will be. I want to motivate people to be unique and stay true to who they are."

Breanne Düren will perform at the Soho House in New York on May 2nd and Hotel Café in Los Angles on May 12th. She'll also be opening for Owl City at Roseland Ballroom in New York City on June 23rd and at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on July 21st.
