P. Diddy Is The Richest Man In Rap

Yesterday, May 10th, Forbes magazine released its annual 'must-read' list detailing hip-hop's wealthiest artists of 2017. It's always a compelling read, and despite the lack of surprises it's reassuring that someone's keeping track of all the money so you don't have to.
Pretty much the same as every year, P.Diddy (known as Sean Combs on his tax returns) made the top of the list with a net worth of around $820 million. Combs, of course, hasn't made all of his soup in the rap game. A good part of the man's empire comes from his ongoing partnership with Ciroc vodka, as well as his folds being investment in the TV network Revolt. Music is only one part of the empire.
In close second, scraping a measly $10 million behind Combs is Jay Z. Music, sports and media mogul, Jay has no less than $810 million. Another rapper with a diverse portfolio of investments, Jay will most likely be keeping track of the stock market when out on tour this summer, headlining festivals and maybe even working on that new album we've all be speculating about.
Beats By Dre. have clearly been doing okay for Dr. Dre. With a cool $740 million. Everyone's favorite headphone salesman may also think of diversifying his stock if he wants to stay in the pack. Maybe, like Diddy he should get into the drinks game and brand gin and juice.
We feel bad talking about those left in the pack… a truly steep drop off sees Birdman coming in with only $110 million, and Drake, for all his recent success and record-breaking albums splutters over the annual finish line with a net worth of a paltry $90 million.
The best thing about lists of this nature is that we see a pretty comprehensive line-up of the hard-work, talent and luck that it takes to reach the summit. We also get to reset the clock and know that we now have 12 full months to get into that top five list ourselves.
