It'd be easy to throw around comparisons in regards to Palms. However, Palms is the very rare project that surpasses even the expectations set by its formidable collective pedigree. An alchemical alternative dream between Deftones, Crosses (†††), and Team Sleep singer Chino Moreno and Isis members Jeff Caxide [bass], Aaron Harris [drums], and Clifford Meyer [keyboards/guitar], Palms defies all categorization and rises to a distinct plateau of its own. You'll hear it on the tense yet swirling first taste of the quartet's self-titled debut, "Patagonia". It's a darkly dreamy soundscape that's as cinematic as it is subtlely chaotic. Listening to the track on headphones, it's easy to feel every flourish from the airy guitars and keys to the intricate bass and seismic drums. In the middle of it all, Moreno delivers some of his most thought-provoking lyrics yet coupled with that intimate and invasive delivery he's perfected. It's like the earth shifting underneath the weight of a dream. It's more than what you'd hoped it would be…
