From one rock goddess to another…
Amy Winehouse died a year ago in July, and punk icon Patti Smith has spoken out, claiming she was devastated the death, since she was a fan and looking forward to hearing more of the "Rehab" singer's musical evolution.
Smith wrote a poem about her feelings, which she turned into the song "This is the Girl" on her new album.
She told The Sun, "I’m heartbroken as a fan and as a human being. What she did was magnificent and I looked forward to how she would evolve. It would have been wonderful to go through life hearing what Amy did next. I actually look at Amy in a maternal way. Amy’s the same age as my kids. They’re 29 and 24 now and she was 27. I'm really concerned about how things were managed around her."
She also commented on what she thinks Winehouse would have felt about the song, saying, "Quite accidentally, we’d written something that I think she might have liked."
Have you heard "This is the Girl" yet?
