An exuberant Paul McCartney thrilled about 400 fans last night with a not-so-secret "secret" show at Amoeba Records, a record store in the heart of Hollywood. Fans camped out for more than a day to see the former Beatle in such an intimate setting, and during a 90-minute set, McCartney did not disappoint, ripping through several tracks from his new album, Memory Almost Full, and plenty of classics with the energy of a man half his age.

"The management has asked us to point out no shoplifting please," Sir Paul joked at the start of the show. Sporting a red shirt and looking younger than his fortysomething bandmates, McCartney was in good spirits, even a little goofy, as he asked the crowd to headbang along to the new song "Nod Your Head" and led his band through three false endings of "I'll Follow the Sun."

"You might want to sing along to this one," he said, seated at the piano, before launching into the old big band standard "Baby Face." After vamping his way through a few verses, he finally segued into "Hey Jude," which did indeed turn into a rousing singalong.

Among those in attendance was the other surviving ex-Beatle, Ringo Starr, whose arrival before the show drew cheers from nearby fans. Oddly, Starr left before the show's conclusion, prompting an "Elvis has left the building" wisecrack from McCartney.

    Set list:

    Drive My Car
    Only Mama Knows
    Dance Tonight
    C Moon
