The Associated Press reports that a handwritten letter from Paul McCartney will go up for auction next month. The letter, penned in 1960, is special since it offers an audition to a drummer willing to travel with the group for a two-month gig in Hamburg, Germany.

History dictates that Pete Best was the group's drummer at the time and he would eventually go on to be replaced by Ringo Starr about two years later shortly before the group exploded on the world stage.

The identity of the drummer being offered an audition is not known. He had placed an ad in a Liverpool paper, which prompted McCartney's response. The status of said audition is unknown; it's not been confirmed if it ever even took place.

The letter is dated Aug. 12, 1960 and is expected to fetch about $11,000 at a Nov. 15 auction. That's sweet cash for a letter, right? But it's a part of history.

Would you bid on this letter?
