Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy had an airbag moment. They were almost in a serious helicopter accident in May. Thankfully, the musician and his wife avoided disaster, but it was a terrifying near-mishap when it happened.
According to WENN, the legendary artist was traveling back to his home in East Sussex, England from an event in London in May when the helicopter pilot reportedly became disoriented in the bad weather.
The aircraft was attempting to touch down on McCartney’s private helipad, but instead plummeted towards trees. A crash, which could have been fatal, was avoided when the pilot pulled up at the last minute and diverted to a nearby airport.
The incident is now the subject of an investigation by the government's Department of Transport after the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) described it as "serious."
A spokesman for Air Harrods, the company which runs the helicopter service, told Mail on Sunday that "Harrods Aviation can confirm that an incident took place on May 3 involving an Air Harrods helicopter. We are working in full cooperation with the AAIB which are currently investigating the incident." Whew.
We are glad Sir Paul and his wife avoided near tragedy.
He is a musical treasure.
