Pay Attention 2: Superflow

The best bands will always give you that coveted out-of-body experience where you’re almost floating along with the music. It’s a “magic carpet” moment that even Aladdin himself has never experienced, if you will. Rock ‘n’ roll isn’t meant to be an escape after all. When it opens those doorways and you step through, you shouldn’t feel the same. That brings us to Charleston, SC quintet Superflow.
The group comprised of Oli Davies, Carlie Woodson, Jim Dyer, Peter Clark, and Chase Bunes strikes an elegant balance between the ethereal wonderment of Pink Floyd and the instrumental ferocity of Led Zeppelin. At the eye of the storm, there’s a captivating vocal interplay between Oli and Carlie that immediately transfixes. It’s unlike any other male-female vocal tandem out there, and it truly does land a one-two knockout punch.
“Window Song” stands punctuated by effervescent tonal swells that swirl while they singe. Then, there’s “Circles,” which wraps around a psychedelic spire as it preserves a potent and irresistible melody. It’s quite the trip, and it’s only just begun.
You’ll feel like you left the earth after one listen, and that’s what makes Superflow one of the most thrilling young acts to emerge in recent memory.
