Peter Bjorn and John formed themselves into a band in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1999. Made up of members Peter Morén on vocals, guitar, and harmonica; Bjorn Yttling on vocals, bass, vocals, and keyboards; and John Eriksson on drums, percussion, and vocals, the band released their self-titled debut album in 2002 and fast became synonymous with a certain tone of un-put-down-able music.
Influenced by 1960's pop, baroque pop, and new wave, the trio forged a new sound that capitalized on their innate sense of melody and modern approach to recording. Their track "Young Folks" became a ubiquitous tune across compilations and dorm rooms of the mid-2000s, and it remains one of the most infectious earworms to have ever been captured on record.
With a preserved passion for making out-and-out indie-pop, Peter Bjorn and John release their most recent album Breakin' Point, a collection of tunes that sounds every bit as celebratory as it does refined. ARTISTdirect Interviews caught up with Peter Morén for a rapid fire offering of insights and inspirations, from inside the world of Peter Bjorn and John of 2016.
