Rock legends Sting and Peter Gabriel will embark on a joint tour this summer, a trek through points in North America called the Rock Paper Scissors Tour. "Having first toured together in the eighties for Amnesty International," reads the press release, "Rock Paper Scissors will find Peter Gabriel and Sting performing both separately and together, playing their own songs as well as melding their bands to explore each other's most celebrated hits."

The tour visits select North American cities this June and July, and tickets go on sale Monday, February 1st, at 10 a.m. at livenation.com.

Kicking off June 21 in Columbus, Ohio, the tour winds through the northeast before hitting Chicago on July 9th. A performance at Milwaukee's venerable Summerfest on July 10th is followed by a stop in Denver on July 12 before stops in San Jose and Lake Tahoe. The Hollywood Bowl will host an evening on July 17, before the tour heads north to Seattle on July 21, Vancouver on July 23 and Edmonton Rexall Place on July 24.

"I'm very happy that we're taking the chance to experiment this way. I think people will be intrigued, I certainly am," Sting said in a statement.

In his remarks, Gabriel said, "What intrigues me is that you get a good bunch of musicians together and interesting things will happen."

The two beloved British songwriters both made lasting contributions to a cherished period of the music of the '80s and '90s, sprinkling their many albums with world- and poly-rhythms and textured synthesizers, each in his own way. Gabriel, first came to success through Genesis, then through a highly-acclaimed solo career; Sting though the Police, then via his own chart-topping solo pursuits. Both are passionate activists for human rights and have started their own watch groups; Gabriel co-founded the human rights organization Witness (witness.org) and Sting, with his wife Trudie Styler, co-founded the Rainforest Fund in 1989 to protect rainforests and the indigenous people who inhabit them.
