Songwriter and producer Pharrell Williams of Neptunes fame is launching a new site, www.kidult.com, which will be a "reliable news source that speaks directly to kids." News source for teens? So is it going to lean heavily to the right like Fox News? Will it go a wee bit left like CNN? Or will it straddle the middle? It's nothing if not an intriguing concept and idea, because it could go either way in terms of its slant and what type of information it feeds kids these days.
The site will include both edited and user-generated content that encompasses current events, politics, science, the environment, technology, health, sports, gaming, fashion and entertainment, all of which are things teens deeply care about. The site is already live and features a Q&A with Justin Bieber and it will feature links to other blogs, political polls and daily video postings, as well.
Williams is quickly developing Kidult as a brand, as he branches into the conference realm. Kidult is promoting the Kidult Youth Leadership Conference, which is scheduled to occur o June 26 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers. Speakers slated to appear include Williams himself and Mimi Valdes, the site's co-founder, who is also the editor-in-chief of Latina Magazine.
Williams is an entrepreneur, with the Billionaire Boys Club clothing line under his belt, as well as a partnership with Bionic Yarn, a textile firm that develops sustainable fabrics from recycled plastic bottles.
