If they just picked up instruments instead of sub-machine guns, The Losers could be a band.
Similar to your favorite artists, each member of the film's elite black ops unit has got his own talent ranging from insane computer proficiency to an ultra cool hand when it comes to sniper rifles to the ability to drive anything. In fact, these cats may even be more deadly than Slipknot or Slayer!
Given their onscreen rhythm, ARTISTdirect.com editor and Dolor author Rick Florino conducted an exclusive interview with the cast of The Losers about what's on their playlists. Stars Chris Evans, Columbus Short, Óscar Jaenada and director Sylvain White all shared what they're listening to in this exclusive feature.
Check out their playlists below and in the video and don't miss The Losers when it storms theaters this Friday April 23!
Columbus Short's Playlist:
1. Mel Torme
Columbus Short: "My playlist is so eclectic. I have everything from Mel Torme to Sade and everything in between."
Chris Evans's Playlist:
1. Alice In Chains
2. Stone Temple Pilots
Chris Evans: " I'm a big fan of '90s rock. I like Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots—stuff I grew up with."
Óscar Jaenada's Playlist:
2. Guns N' Roses
3. Frank Sinatra
Óscar Jaenada: "I used to hear jazz music in the hotel. My character's a sniper so he's got to hear some more quiet music to be smooth. I've got Pavarotti, Guns N' Roses, Frank Sinatra or flamenco music."
Sylvain White's Playlist:
1. Journey — "Don't Stop Believin"
Sylvain White: "I pay very close attention to music in my movies. It's something that I'm very passionate about. I knew we had to do Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" which Chris Evans sings in one part of the movie."
Sylvain White: "I have music that inspires me while I'm shooting the movie. In this particular case, it was Mogwai. They really inspired me in terms of the musical aesthetic of the film."
3. Street Sweeper Social Club
Sylvain White: "Once I'm in post-production, I start finding my own elements. I found this band called Street Sweeper Social Club. One of the guys from Rage Against the Machine started it. It's this mixture of really heavy hardcore rock with hip hop. I thought it was super cool for the movie."
4. The Kills
Sylvain White: "My editor actually found The Kills. I was like, "This is perfect for this scene." It works beautifully. They're a great band by the way."
Sylvain White: "I listen to a wide variety of stuff. My favorite band is probably Fishbone. They're an L.A.-based band that I love. Hands-down, my number one band…I've been listening to them forever."
Sylvain White: "I love Jay-Z. I like a lot of mash-up stuff. I love fusion between rock and hip hop."
7. Ben Harper
8. Explosions in the Sky
Sylvain White: "I've got a really strong passion for music. I've played the piano for a long time, and I'm really hands-on with the whole musical quality of the movie. Sometimes, I play music on the set to get actors in the mood for a certain scene. I did that a few times on this movie which caught them by surprise. They're like, "What is this?" It's something I pay close attention to. It's an action comedy but a lot of those scenes feel like a ballet, you want to bounce back and forth between the imagery and the sound. On-set, I played some Mogwai, some Jay-Z and I had composed some music specifically for some pre-production of the movie. I also played The Kills and Explosions in the Sky."
Will you be seeing The Losers this weekend?
