Public Enemy will release Bring the Noise Hits, Vids and Docs 3 this summer, a collection which focuses on the rap luminary's post-Def Jam career. But rapper Chuck D told Billboard some key and interesting details about the band's new album, which is planned for 2011.
"We have investors for the record all over the world and one thing that separates us from doing our own record in our own studios is each song will be a collaboration," Chuck D told Billboard. "So the people who call themselves fans and want something different from the group will be getting collaborations."
Investors? Don't worry. PE aren't expecting venture capitalists to come forward and pay for their new album. Come on! This Public Enemy we're talking about. They are iconoclasts in every sense of the word. So just how is the record being funded? They want you to be a part of the financial and creative processes. Through www.sellaband.com, the band is employing a fan-funded method for the recording process, with hopes of raising $75,000. The band has reached three-quarters of its goal, so if you are a PE fan and have not invested yet, what are you waiting for? Help the band reach the top of its mountain, so to speak.
There is also an incentive for investing. You will get the album, some swag, and a percent of the retail.
Brilliant or confusing? Will you be investing in PE's new album? And where is Flavor Flav in all this? Are any of his Vh1 pals planning to invest?
