He's got a solo record out this month!
Anthony Raneri from Bayside is dropping his new solo record, Sorry State of Mind, on June 30 via Hopeless Records.
So of course we invited Mr. Raneri into the Take Aim ring to give us the advance scoop on this amazing record. We heard it and we love it. You will, too.
What's to know about his not-so-sorry "state of mind?" And what's it like to write a one-minute song in two minutes? Let's find out, shall we?
Twitter-size your bio -- your choice of 140 words or characters, if you want to get technical-- and tell us everything we need to know! GO!
I've been touring and making records for 15 years. I've already made all my mistakes so now you're getting the refined version.
If you were not doing music, you would be...
Playing shortstop for the Yankees.
Any non-music hobbies, talents or skills?
I don't know so much about 'skills or talents' outside of music but I do enjoy watching baseball and cooking.
Pick ONE song one your record and share a writing or recording story. Something intimate, that you haven't told anyone else (or at least a bunch of writers or journalists) and that which puts us in the moment with you. Let's get intimate, shall we?
The song 'Smithereens' is about a minute long and I wrote it in about two. I was listening to a lot of Randy Newman so I was messing around a lot with jazz chords and trying to transpose the interesting chords and timings that are usually only done on piano to guitar parts. I was laying in bed watching a documentary on religion with my wife and the lyric 'Any God that don't work on Sunday ain't a God that can work for me' popped into my head. I paused the movie and made my wife wait while I went into the next room and wrote the song.
Finish this sentence: Anthony Raneri is the artist that...
...Takes chances musically and lyrically while keeping the music accessible and understandable.
