Actor Michael Rapaport's Beats, Rhymes and Life, a documentary about the influential, genre-defining hip-hop band A Tribe Called Quest, has officially joined the U.S. documentary competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Congrats to Rapaport for that accolade. However, the doc does not sit well with Q-Tip, a member of the '90s legends.
Tip Tweeted that he is "not in support" of the film, which is said to follow the band's reunion and resultant drama during the "Rock the Bells" tour in 2008; there is even a scene of Tip telling Rapaport that the band's San Francisco show could be their last.
The film is also said to center on Tip's strife with member Phife Dawg in addition to Phife's struggles with diabetes. Tip intimates that Rapaport did not honor unspecified requests the band had made about the film.
