Queens of the Stone Age have joined the ranks of artists promising to release some of the most anticipated albums of 2017. It's been four years since Josh Homme and his band released "...Like Clockwork", and whilst he has been busy with a host of other projects, including Eagles of Death Metal, and his production work with Iggy Pop on "Post Pop Depression", fans will be eager to hear the artist back in rank with Queens of the Stone Age.
News of the album comes via Troy Sanders of Mastodon, who recently formed a metal super group with Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age. Speaking of the pressures and demands placed on a supergroup - and how fellow band members juggle their various responsibilities, Sanders (perhaps accidentally) let slip that a new album from QOTSA would be released this year.
"I like to think none of us needs this band, but we all really want this band. When that's the mentality, this is special to the four of us… Otherwise, we wouldn't dedicate the first week of 2017 to working on this band. For example, Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon and At the Drive-In have all been recording, and we all have new records coming out this year. We've all been extremely busy writing and recording, and we're about to get super busy touring the world. So I believe we're all fulfilled to a certain degree with all we have going on."
The news lines up with information that lead to speculation and hope in the summer of 2016 when Josh Homme appeared on the "Let There Be Talk" podcast, where he revealed that QOTSA was "next on his schedule," of projects, adding, "Same lineup, we're locked in."
