Though cult filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has featured Ennio Morricone's iconic music in his past films, his new film The Hateful Eight marks the first time the iconic Italian composer has scored an original soundtrack specifically for him. It's also, according to the press release, "the first time Morricone has scored a Western film in over 40 years, since the release of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."
That's a pretty big seal of approval for Tarantino, whose new gritty Western set in Wyoming stars familiar Tarantino names like Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen.
The Hateful Eight soundtrack will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms worldwide through Decca Records on December 18, with Jack White's Third Man Records offering up an exclusive double 180 gram LP vinyl edition in the United States. That release will include a "tri-fold reversible jacket with a soft touch finish, 60"x12" poster, 36"x12" poster, and 12-page booklet insert with stills from the film."
The Hateful Eight film will be released on Christmas day and will screen for a limited time in the extra wide Ultra Panavision 70 mm format, on which only 10 films have ever been made, and which requires specific, nearly obsolete projectors to screen. It will then start its digital run and see wide release on January 8.
