Quincy Jones Clarifies Kanye West Comments

The legendary music man Quincy Jones, who is actress Rashida Jones' dad, has answered back to reports suggesting that he dissed Kanye West by calling him "just a rapper." Hello, this sounds like damage control, since West is a cultural controversy lightning rod these days, especially to his critics.
However, in a statement posted to his official website, the producer, 77, says his comments about West were taken "out of context" in an interview with UsMagazine.com. Jones was responding to comparisons between himself and West and said, "Did he write for a symphony orchestra? Does he write for a jazz orchestra? Come on, man. He's just a rapper. There's no comparison...I spent 28 years learning my first skill. I don't rap. It's not the same thing."
Jones' posted the following rebuttal on his site: "I'd appreciate it if people didn't take my comments about Kanye West (@KanyeWest ) or anyone else for that matter out of context to contrive a story. I have nothing but respect for my little brother Kanye and what he has achieved in his young career and I look forward to watching his evolution as an artist."
Given West's penchant for taking to Twitter, television benefits for national tragedies and, you know, stages at the VMAs, to criticize perceived rivals, perhaps Jones is taking the path of least resistance with his "retraction," of sorts.
What do you think of the Jones/West controversy?
