R.E.M. manager Bertis Downs has said that the band is unlikely to tour in support of their new album, Collapse Into Now, out March 8th. Gasp! Not touring to support an album? That's career suicide, no? Well, not when you are R.E.M. and have that kind of name recognition. The band doesn't need to tour because they have that loyal of a fan base that will know that a new album is out.

Downs told the Athens, Georgia Music & Arts Tumblr that the band simply doesn't tour behind every album, and this is one of those cases.

Are you bummed that R.E.M. won't be touring to support Collapse Into Now? Or so do you just want to hear the new album?
