Rachel Crow has got a big voice. Even though she's only 14-years-old, she can hit notes of epic proportions, and that's made her a favorite on The X Factor. Her debut EP illuminates both immense vocal talent and a knack for a hook. Crow is well on her way to becoming a major star. She's already got quite the jumpstart!

In this exclusive interview with ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino, Rachel Crow talks her EP, favorite artists and so much more…

What's the story behind "Mean Girls"?

I first met Toby Gad the day we wrote the song. We sat down and talked about it. He was like, "How was school for you?" I said, "I was bullied by the mean girls because I had big curly hair, this unique personality, and I was different in every way." We thought it would be a good idea to write a song around that day. It just blossomed from a little flower bud. It was magical and crazy. It's about being yourself and not worrying about what other people think.

Was that positive message an important part of the song for you?

Yeah! I'm not a negative person. I try to be positive and happy all the time. I try to be me. That's the message I wanted to get across. Don't be sad about it. Rise above it and don't worry about it.

Where did "What a Song Can Do" come from?

That's one of my favorite songs in the whole wide world. I love it so much. It means so much to me. It sums up what a song can do for somebody. It lifts you up, makes you happy, and makes you feel good. Music is literally my life. I couldn't live without it. The song tells everybody that about me. I didn't want to do another cover. I wanted people to know who I am. It's a "Rachel" song.

Did you have fun collaborating with Mann on "Rock With You"?

We wanted someone cool on it. We reached out to Mann, and he said he'd love to do it. I was like, "Yay!" The minute I heard it, it was amazing. That song makes me want to dance, move, have a blast, and jump up and down. I love that track.

    What artists shaped you?

Eminem! I love Eminem! I'm going to sing with him one day. I promise. It might take a while, but it's going to happen. I think he's a great dad. I love all the words in his songs. He's a lyrical genius. He's awesome. I also love Bruno Mars. His voice is amazing. My mom always says his voice is like butter because you want to listen to it all the time. I love Adele. I think she's a rare talent. She's so great. Jennifer Hudson is amazing. She's a strong, independent woman, and I like that. Beyoncé is so beautiful and well-rounded.

What inspires you outside of music?

I love going to the movies and seeing new films. Titanic is my all-time favorite movie. I love that. I love to doodle. I love to hang out with friends when I can and try to be regular.

    What's next for you?

My tour, of course! Then, I'm doing a pilot for my new show after the tour. My album will hopefully be out later this year.
