Rapper Jeezy Announces 'Church in These Streets' Concert Series
Fri, 16 Oct 2015 14:12:41
Grammy-nominated rapper Jeezy will perform a series of six intimate shows (dates below) in support of his new album, Church in These Streets (Friday, November 13, via CTE/Def Jam Recordings). This announcement is the latest in a string of missives from his camp, including his "Sunday Service" news feed that's been eking out new videos and music from the forthcoming album (most recently "Sweet Life (ft. Janelle Monáe);" a five-track EP titled Politically Correct EP, in honor of the Justice Or Else event commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the Million Man March (which he attended); and a late-August issued open letter that teases the upcoming release while also addressing a number of societal ills.
"We are all Gods in our own right," Jeezy writes. "We all have the ability and the power to change the things around us. We all have the ability to affect lives; to raise our sons and daughters to become Kings and Queens; Leaders and Prophets. To make a difference on Earth while they are here."
That letter that will reportedly inform the new album, his sixth studio release, with a "strong societal and political tone," while nodding to the spirit world, with songs like "God" and the self-titled track conjuring religious themes (not to mention his sign-off, "Pastor Young").
