Since it's opening in 1942, the 100 club has hosted many artists such as B.B.King, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, Oasis, and the Sex Pistols to name but a few. The club had recently been threatened with closure, because of financial pressures as have many smaller fringe clubs across the country, but after a high-profile campaign supported by Sir Paul McCartney and Ronnie Wood, a recent sponsorship deal with the shoe company Converse has saved the 100 Club from an uncertain future.

With the 2012 Olympics in London right around the corner, The Kinks frontman Ray Davies is already working on writing a song for the ceremonies.

Davies told VH1 Radio that writing an Olympics song interested him and that "it depends who with and in what context. It would be nice to be involved in some way. I'm going to write something anyway called 'Olympicland.' I already started it about four years ago when we first got the bid. It'll be my own personal view of London."

Davies further expanded upon a song he wrote called "Olympicland," saying, "It started off as a song but I think it's going to be a stream of consciousness album. A lot of instrumental, sound, soundscapes, interviews with people, Londoners, generations. It's a pet hobby. It'll probably end up being really good because it's something that I have a passion for and it's a hobby project."

What other English artists should pen songs about the 2012 Olympics?
