They told us all about the song title and it's meaning, too.
Our pals in RDGLDGRN shared their video for "No Pixar." They reached out to us and gave us a little insight into the song and the video. Of course, the first thing we thought upon seeing the title of the song was "Pixar? Like Disney animation?" Exactly.
But how does it apply to the song and a larger meaning? We're glad you asked. So are RDGLDGRN.
"The song title comes directly from the line in the song, 'No Pixar, No Disney / Just a tinted cop car for the picknies,' and it is talking about two things," the band told us. "First, it deals with us not having a big company, like Pixar or Disney, to help us produce our dreams and, secondly, that there is nothing in hip-hop culture that is equivalent to the identity and sense of morality that these companies represent."
Ah, there it is! The deeper nugget of meaning! Think about it. Chew on it. And then go re-watch and re-listen to the song with that in mind. The band just gave you a mini guided tour.
The clip is pretty DIY but it totally rules. There is some animation and CGI stuff going on, but it's very street, and that's what makes it so freakin' cool. Plus, that beat? Well that s**t don't quit. Make sure to crank this track when you play it. It has a bit of a reggae tint to it.
RDGLDGRN are one of our faves in the hip-hop scene. They should be yours, too. Get your "No Pixar" on now.
