Reading List: Pete Loeffler of Chevelle

The sound of Chevelle's latest effort Hats Off to the Bull is extremely diverse to say the least. It's got the crushingly catchy choruses that fans have come to know and love from the band over the years, but there's an ethereal sensitivity to tunes like "Prima Donna" that sees the group expanding and evolving yet again.
Frontman Pete Loeffler's current reading list is just as varied, and he shared it with ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief and Dolor author Rick Florino in this exclusive feature.
Pete Loeffler's Reading List
Anthony Bourdain — Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook
I'm reading Anthony Bourdain's Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook. I love his shows! They're raw, and he's the shit! I follow him on Twitter, and I just started that last year. It's actually hilarious. If you follow the right people, you're going to love it. He puts out a bunch of books like Kitchen Confidential. He starts out this book with this strange experience of eating this endangered bird. He got invited to this party with all of these top echelon chefs huddled together in a dark room to eat this endangered bird because it's a delicacy. It's funny how he glorifies certain things like eating. He's a badass, and he travels so much for fun. I can't imagine what songs I'd write if I could do that. - [Amazon]
Steve Martin — Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life
I read a lot of random stuff like Steve Martin's biography Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life. I'm trying to find my humorous side as I get older. It's a pretty funny book. He says he wasn't particularly good at anything he could put his finger his on. He knew he was funny but not that funny to be a comedian. Little did he know…he plays the banjo too. He's a really multi-talented guy. He actually started out being a magician. He knew he wanted to be in show business. - [Amazon]
Mary Roach — Packing for Mars
It's been a while since I've read science fiction, but I like the genre. Packing for Mars is pretty cool. It's a really funny book by Mary Roach. It's hard to wrap your head around. It's all about space travel and the funny things that happen to people who do it. - [Amazon]
