Edgar Allan Poe could've been a rock star.

With even one glance at The Raven, it's clear that he had knack for rhythm. There's a lyrical quality to his short stories as well. Poe managed to capture the attention of his readers through concise macabre tales much like records. In addition, he existed on the fringe of popular culture similar to the rock musicians of our time. It's no surprise that so many bands will cite the legendary author and his work as a major influence.

In order to further uncover the connection between Edgar Allan Poe and rock 'n' roll, we spoke to a myriad of different artists about when they discovered Poe, what they enjoy about his work, and the effect that it left on them.

Everybody from Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers to James "Munky" Shaffer of Korn and Fear and the Nervous System had an Edgar Allan Poe story. Budding rockers take note—reading Poe's work may very well be a rite of passage to superstardom.

In honor of the anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe's death on October 7 and the impending release of Relativity Media's The Raven on March 9th 2012, ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino spoke to Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, James "Munky" Shaffer of Korn & Fear and the Nervous System, Seether, Cobra Starship, MUTEMATH, Andrew W.K., and The Knux all about the man, his work, and the myths surrounding him.

It's a spooky and fun exclusive video piece, and you can watch it below only on ARTISTdirect.com!
