Two renowned entertainment industry veterans are poised to offer extensive opportunities in multi-platform accessibility via Stephen Levinson's new record label, Leverage Records. Golden Globe winner Levinson has teamed with Grammy-winning producer Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Groban, Adele) for this progressive joint venture.
Levinson pitched the idea for Leverage Records to former Maverick A&R man Michael Goldberg, who in turn introduced him to Rubin. With a long history as both a producer and label owner - he co-founded Def Jam in 1984, branched out into American Recordings four years later and is currently the co-chairman of Columbia Records - Rubin was excited to be involved by having American help find, promote and distribute the Leverage releases. With A&R from Goldberg and Isaac Heymann, and American's involvement, on-the-rise artists may have the opportunity - if the circumstances are right - to take advantage of Rubin's expertise while making an album, as well as appear in Levinson's battery of acclaimed series. Most labels struggle for opportunities to break their music. Leverage will present artists a dynamic platform to license and feature their music in shows, maximizing visibility. Although the fit has to be natural and logical for all parties, the goal is to generate the best situation for their artists, be it a new, unknown quantity, or an established performer striving to go to the next level.
