It seems like you should really be careful what you wish for, or jokingly Tweet about. Rihanna, who was recently announced as appearing in an upcoming movie from wonderfully mad French director, Leos Carax, has now be confirmed to appear alongside Lupita Nyong'o in a buddy heist movie.

The movie, to be directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma), will be a comedy, and it's based on a tweet of the singer and actress that went viral.

Rihanna, a GRAMMY-winning artist was photographed with Lupita Nyong'o, an Oscar-winning actress at a Miu Miu fashion show back in 2014. It's reported that the photo was used in April as part of a joke movie pitch on Twitter. "Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans," counter reports suggest that the joke first appeared on Tumblr — either way, both stars expressed an interest in the idea via their own Twitter accounts — it wasn't long before DuVernay caught up with the idea, thought it was a good one — and recruited Insecure writer Issa Rae to act as scribe on the project.

According to reports in Entertainment Weekly the project — apparently the first movie conceived on the internet — was pitched to studios at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Netflix has come out with the deal, after offering a very aggressive bid. What's not clear at this point is if the movie will follow the concept outlined in the initial Tweet.

DuVernay is currently working on a movie starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris Pine, Oprah Winfrey, Andre Holland and Reese Witherspoon — it's an adaptation of fantasy novel A Wrinkle In Time — but after that it seems Netflix are getting to work and scheduling the movie for a release as soon as 2018.

The pedigree of all those involved in the project takes the concept beyond the joke that started it all. Rihanna's screen credits include TV's Bates Motel, Battleship, and the previously mentioned, upcoming Leos Carax project will next hit our screens alongside Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett in Ocean's 8, and also in Luc Besson's sci-fi romp Valerian.

Nyong'o, who won an Oscar for her role in Twelve Years A Slave has since leant her vocal talent to the recent remake of The Jungle Book. She also appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens but was most recently seen in last year's Queen of Katwe. She'll next appear in Marvel's Black Panther movie, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Rae's comedy Insecure saw her nominated for best actress in a comedy for her part in the HBO series at the Golden Globes.

With this range of talents involved in the project it seems like the joke-tweet could result in a seriously fun flick.
