Rita Ora surprised judges on The Voice in Germany, flawlessly performing her newest single "Your Song" as the judges faced away from her. The judges in turn surprised Ora when they spun around to face her, complimented her talents, and asked who she was. One judge even commented, "It sounded almost like the original!"
The judges on the German version of The Voice only knew the artist's description to be "a 26 year-old aspiring musician from London," which is mostly true of Ora, except for the fact that she's well established act with four consecutive singles topping the UK charts, a top five US track with Iggy Azalea, and was herself a former judge on The Voice in England. Add in that Ora played Christian Grey's sister in the Fifty Shades of Grey film series, and that "Your Song" was a top 20 charting single in Germany itself, and then try to comprehend how certain Ora must have been that she'd be recognized.
Though she and the judges all played the flub off quite well once the truth came out, this isn't Ora's first publicity stunt to go awry. On Halloween of 2014, Ora posted on her Twitter, saying "Dropping my new song monday if this get 100,000 retweets." At the time the singer boasted 3.9 million followers, but the post received a measly 2,000 retweets before being deleted. Ora later claimed her Twitter had been hacked, but also that someone was threatening to release her music without her consent. Both explanations received a dubious reaction on social media outlets.
