That hip-hop world weaves a tangled web. A reunion gig by Run-DMC that was slated for this summer's Root's Picnic, held in the city of Brotherly Love, has been shelved, according to Roots' drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, who revealed the information to Billboard.com. Rather, The Roots will serve as backing band for Ghostface, Method Man and Raekwon, all from Wu-Tang Clan.
Vampire Weekend are on board to headline the third annual Roots Picnic. The Roots themselves will perform, along with side projects from Questlove and Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter. The event will be held June 5 at Philadelphia's Festival Pier. Clipse, Mayer Hawthorne, Nneka, the Very Best, Tuneyards, Das Racist, Bajah and the Dry Eye Crew and Pattern Is Movement round out the bill. Questlove will play a set with fellow Philadelphia native DJ Jazzy Jeff, in a display of Philly brotherhood that would make Will Smith proud.
Are you bummed that the Run-DMC reunion was axed? Or is it not really a Run-DMC reunion without Jam Master Jay?
