E! Entertainment announced last week that it was canceling its highly-rated show, Daily 10, so that they could return to an hour-long format of E! News on October 25. That means Daily 10 host Sal Masekela is out; he confirmed his departure from the network late last week.
Masekela, known for his unique and witty hosting on the show, successfully garnered Daily 10 its highest ratings, so the host leaves with his head held high. "Sal's an incredible talent who has made our air better through his versatility, humor and professionalism," said Ted Harbert, President & CEO of Comcast Entertainment Group, in a statement. "I hope we have the opportunity to work with him again soon."
"I am grateful for my time spent at E!. I am leaving the network better at what I do than when I first started four-and-a-half years ago," said Masekela about his departure. "I'm proud the successful entertainment show ended at a time when it was enjoying its highest ratings."
Now that he has free time, Masekela will be spending time in Massachusetts and New York City this Fall to help raise awareness about the exportation of culture in South Africa with his father, renowned world musical legend and South African political activist, Hugh Masekela.
In addition to his hosting, producing, acting, and voice over work, Masekela lends his name and time to his charity, Stoked Mentoring (www.stokedmentoring.org), for which he is running the 2010 ING Marathon in New York City to raise funds for the foundation. Stoked Mentoring is a non-profit action sports organization for at-risk youth with the mission of developing Successful Teens with Opportunity, Knowledge, Experience and Determination through the use of action sports, mentoring, and coaching. Masekela's passion for sport culture has also made him a leading expert/host, and continues to be one of the most sought after in his market.
