The San Francisco Giants are honoring the 15th anniversary of the death of the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia with "Jerry Garcia Tribute Night," which will feature a rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" performed by the Dead's rhythm guitarist Bob Weir and drummer Mickey Hart, which will be performed during the seventh inning stretch.
Additionally, Hart is attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the largest kazoo ensemble, wrangling 7,000 participants for "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," so if you are planning to attend, bring your kazoo. It'll sound like you are watching a World Cup game, where kazoos are used throughout.
A "special event" ticket is being made available, to which fans will get to sit in a special "Jerry Garcia" section and will receive a Garcia bobblehead that honors his Candlestick Park "Banner" performance from 1993. Dead cover bands will also be there to perform pre-game jams, so Dead heads might want to get there super early. Garcia's daughter Annabelle will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch. The Giants are slated to play the Chicago Cubs.
Is this a fitting celebration for the Jerry Garcia legacy?
