Dia Frampton, the runner up for the first season of The Voice, sat down with ARTISTdirect.com to speak about the stunning song "Daniel" [Watch the performance of it!] from her upcoming album. She actually performed the song acoustically for us, as well! We're cool kids, we know. Frampton peeled back the skin and revealed the meaning of the song, which is purposefully obvious.
"It's the most personal song on the record. The lyrics are straightforward and I didn't change the name. It's self-explanatory," Frampton said. It was about her leaving the boy she liked to go do her job in L.A., which is to make music. Frampton continued, "I gave up too easily with that relationship. When I cut vocals for that song, I was sad and really fragile." The producer for the song kept picking at her emotional scab in order to get the best performance out of her. Sometimes you suffer for your art and the result is a homerun song, which "Daniel" is for Frampton.
It's an amazing, spare, beautiful, emotional, heartfelt, touching, nerve-striking song. It's available on her Universal Republic Records debut, Red.
