Everything Everything Videos
ARTISTdirect.com sat down with Everything Everything for the latest installment of our See the Music series. During our entertaining chat, the band detailed the specifics of the title track for their EP, Cough Cough.
In this clip, vocalist/guitarist Jonathan Higgs, who is flanked by drummer Michael Spearman, says that "Cough, Cough" was inspired by him coughing while talking to someone. He was coughing rhythmically and recorded "a demo" on his phone. Since he was really into the tribal percussion and the snare of Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)" at the time, he was inspired to try and copy the minimalist, voice-and-drums-R&B approach of that song and apply in a different way!
Beyoncé? Really? Who knew? The end result is certainly an interesting interpretation, and one that is uniquely the band's. The percussion and beats are almost militaristic and we can guarantee that you won't hear anything else like it this year.
The Cough Cough EP was released earlier this year via Juliana Casablancas' Cult Records and Kemosabe Records. Yes, that Julian Casablancas of The Strokes.
Find out which movie Cough Cough is most like. Is it Die Hard, the Jurassic Park trilogy or both? Watch and find out!
After you watch this clip, you'll understand why Everything Everything are our favorite U.K. band. Yes, we like them better than bigger names that we won't mention. Because they're decent, and by "decent," we mean really fucking awesome!
