K'NAAN sat down with ARTISTdirect.com for this latest edition of our exclusive See the Music series, where he addresses a larger societal concept: Loneliness. He does so with his song "Is There Anybody Out There."
He says that feeling lonely is not something reserved for elderly people and he contends that young people are also lonely, saying that connectedness is an illusion, even with the advent of Twitter and Facebook.
We may always be connected and you can reach out to the masses via digital means, but the depth of the communication is less and less in the age of social networking. It's a shallow connection.
It's a poignant and powerful thought, that's for sure. We may be able to reach out at all times and in many ways, but are we really saying or doing anything meaningful?
He spoke about working with Nelly Furtado, saying she has a lot of flavor. He also says she is almost like a rapper, given her rhythmic way of pronouncing things. She also has the ability to make people believe what she is saying when she sings.
