ARTISTdirect.com sat down with singer PJ Morton for the latest installment of our exclusive See the Music series. The singer reveals some secrets about his vocal flow and how producing his own records helps him to fully actualize his vision.
He also shared what it was like to work with a legend like Stevie Wonder on the track "Only One," a funky, uptempo song. "I love love, and part of that comes from my parents being together for so long. They made love look fun. It's a big subject for me."
He wants to carry the "Stevie torch" of singing about the topic of love, and having the R&B icon contribute vocals was like an endorsement and a legit passing of that very torch.
Morton also talks about "Motions," which is heartfelt and simple, and "New Orleans," which is not just his birthplace. The album, also named New Orleans, is out this spring.
ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino puts it best though, "PJ Morton is the ultimate 21st century soul man. He's got R&B groove down to a science, while adding a little hip-hop grit and even some rock shine. New Orleans is the perfect place to meet one of the brightest and most brilliant artists of 2013."
The album is out May 14, 2013!
